Welcome to the Matador Instrumental Music Update weekly email– MIMU for short. This is your source for all thing going on with the Bernardo Yorba Bands, Orchestras and Colorguard. MIMU is sent out on Sunday evenings every week during the school year. Each section has a heading, so you can jump down to the sections that apply to you and your students.

 

First Few Weeks of School

Most classes will not need instruments right away. Our first days will be spent taking care of class rules, policies & procedures and making sure students have required materials in addition to a refresh in music literacy.

 

Wind Ensemble and Performing Band should be prepared to bring their instruments on Thursday, August 30th.

GROUP-SPECIFIC UPDATES

Marching Band & Colorguard

  • We need donations of gallon-sized jugs of water! Please bring them by room 901
  • First Friday Marching Band & Colorguard Rehearsal, Fri 9/7, 3:20-5:00

This is our first combined rehearsal as a full group for this year’s Marching Matadors. We will be working on how we look and sound as a group. Attendance is mandatory for all students in 1st period, 2nd period and Colorguard as this is one of the few times we are all together as one group. It is important to practice what we perform. Students should wear comfortable shoes and pants/shorts as we will be moving quite a bit. We also have BYMS Alumni come back to help work with students.

  • Volunteers needed! Band Uniform Fittings – 9/12 & 9/13 we will need help measuring, sizing, and managing students as they are fitted for uniforms. Please contact VP Mandy McCarthy at viceprez@bymsmusic.org if you are able to volunteer!
  • Football Game w/ EHS – Please see info sheet
  • We will be asking students to switch to needed instruments for our marching season. If your student is interested, please have them talk with Mrs. Neumayr.

Wind Ensemble

 

Advanced Orchestra

  • We will begin seating auditions process during the second week of school. Students will receive information and music to audition with for their seating placement. We will spend a short amount of class time rehearsing audition sections, and then students are to practice on their own for their audition.

BYEU Sponsored Welcome Back Dance – Friday, September 21st

We are in charge of the snack bar/concessions stands at this dance! Last year we raised over $1000! We need donations of single serve snacks, chips, cookies and sodas/drinks. Popular are Takis, Hot Cheetos, Sour Patch.

 

DUE DATES

Please do not wait until the last minute to ask for an extension on a due date.

Assignments and forms are always accepted before the due date.
