DIRECTOR’S NOTES

  • Marching Rehearsal 10/26 – NEW – Performing Band AND Wind Ensemble and Colorguard – this is the only rehearsal we have together before our performance at Band Pageant. We will be working on On the Street, This is My Country, the Star Spangled Banner, and countermarching. BYMS has a minimum day, school is out at 1:00 p.m. We will have a 20 minute period to each lunch, then begin rehearsal at 1:20 p.m. Students who eat school lunch will need to plan ahead and bring lunch that day. Please contact Mrs. Neumayr if you have any questions.

  • We still really need a volunteer to fill the Uniform position on our board. As you may have noticed, our Dinkles order and distribution did not go as smoothly as it can be. We have board members and the director taking on additional responsibilities of the Uniform position on top of their already full plate. We may have to  discontinue to compete or perform in Marching Band if we do not fill this position.

  • Please encourage your student to make practice a part of their daily routine – learning an instrument is like training for a sport or a marathon–it takes time and regular practice in order to see results. It is better to practice for 15-20 minutes each day, than for two hours in one sitting.

The deadline for Mixed Bag & Yankee Candle has been extended to Thursday, October 25th. We only had about 14% of our program participate in this fundraiser. In order to keep Fair Share low, and to do things like field trips, playing new music,  we need to do well on fundraisers.

Dine out at Islands! Tuesday 10/30

Spread the word! Come out to support BYEU at Islands! BYEU will receive 20% from all orders from 4:00-10:00 p.m. including take out and alcohol purchases. Flyer (attached) must be shown either on paper or digital (show it on your phone). See you there!

GROUP-SPECIFIC UPDATES

Advanced Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Performing Band last week of  Practice Log through Google Classroom – all entries due Sunday 10/28, 11:59 p.m. Students must complete a total of 400 minutes of practice over the next four weeks to receive full credit. It is recommended to enter your practice session info each time you practice, not all at once at the end of the four weeks. To access the Google Form, click here

PYLUSD BAND PAGEANT – Wednesday, November 7th, Bradford Stadium, 7 p.m.– The 43rd  annual Placentia Yorba Linda Unified School District Band Pageant will take place at Bradford Stadium on Wednesday evening November 7th. This event features all of the district middle school and high school bands.  It is an evening to remember and appreciate the talent throughout our district. Tickets for this spectacular event are $5.00 and are currently available through band and colorguard students.

Marching Band and Colorguard will receive an envelope with 10 tickets this week. Students are responsible for returning either money or unsold tickets by Wednesday November 7th. Please see Mrs. Neumayr if you need more tickets to sell! BYEU receives 100% of monies made for pre-sold tickets at this discounted price. We have to split sales at the door with all 10 schools participating.
