Matador Instrumental Music Updates

Week starting 3/4/19

Bernardo Yorba Entertainment Unit Weekly Newsletter

The most successful students have involved parents.

Lunchtime Jazz Performance Wrap Up – what a HUGE success! I am very proud of the Jazz Band for a GREAT lunchtime performance. I had several students, parents, teachers and administration members come up and pay the Jazz Band huge compliments for their musicianship, stage presence and entertainment. Many non-music students told me they had no idea that some of their peers were so talented and played in Jazz Band. Thank you to our parents who came to watch this performance!

Notebook Checks have been postponed to Friday, March 8th, due to the spirit assembly last week. It is important for students to bring required materials every day so that they can be the most successful during class. Check Google Classroom for exactly what will be checked.

Pre-Festival Performance & Clinic Info The Advanced Orchestra, Performing Band and Wind Ensemble are gearing up for our Pre-Festival Performance & Clinic! This performance serves two purposes. First, this gives families an opportunity to hear the music these groups will be performing at the SCSBOA Festival later this month. The Festival is during the school day which can be a challenge to make arrangements with work schedules. Second, this performance is where our students will be able to perform and then participate in a clinic with some fantastic veteran music educators. The coolest part is that the audience will be able to see the entire clinic and experience what it is like to rehearse as a large group! Please see the attached Info Sheet for day-of information, and please check out the volunteer needs for this event.

Practice Logs – Week 5 You can always submit a practice log late for partial credit–some points are better than none! You can receive up to 2 points extra credit each week which could help with future practice log assignments. Note: late or resubmissions may take up to 2 weeks to return for updated grades.

Aztec Jazz Festival Info – please see attached Info Sheet for next Saturday’s performance.

6th Grade Parent Showcase – March 19th Jazz Band will be performing in the quad from 6:00-6:45. Call time is 5:30 in your Jazz Uniform. Advanced Orchestra will not be performing at this event–enjoy your night off!

6th Grade Visitation Day – March 20th 6th graders from Fairmont, Glenknoll, Glenview and Woodsboro will be visiting BYMS in the morning. Advanced Orchestra and Jazz Band have been asked to perform. This is a daytime performance and more info about what to wear and what we will be playing will be given out during class.

8th Grade YLHS Band & Guard Parent & Student Info Night – March 7th  see attached flyer for more info
