Week starting 5/27/19

Bernardo Yorba Entertainment Unit Weekly Newsletter

The most successful students have involved parents.

Big Band Blowout Wrap Up GREAT job to our performers for a fantastic show on Friday night! Many directors from PYLUSD attended and gave the band compliments for a wonderful performance. I hope you all enjoyed James Carter – we’re very fortunate to be able to play alongside him!

Penny Wars  Thank you to everyone who participated in Penny Wars! It’s hard to say which class is the winner – our Boosters will be taking all of the pennies (and then some!) to the bank and will have the grand total announced at Yorba Meadows. The winning class will celebrate with root beer floats on Friday, May 31st, during class.

6/3 Pizza Party – All Orchestra Students! Mr. Fang from Esperanza HS Orchestra has invited all BYMS orchestra students to an end of the year Pizza Party and Rehearsal! We will be playing some music from The Greatest Showman, Bohemian Rhapsody, and a few other songs alongside high schoolers and then enjoy some pizza to celebrate the end of a successful year. It would be great to have 100% attendance from BYMS. All students who go will receive extra credit, free pizza and a really fun time! See attachment

BYEU Booster Board 2019-2020  Our Booster Board has spent countless hours to make this year successful. Thank you for all of your work for our program and for volunteering your hours. Many of our current board members will be moving on to the high schools with their students! Without the help of these positions, we could not do the events, fundraisers, performances and competitions that we do! Please consider volunteering for one of the open positions so that we may continue to operate at the level we do.

Tuba Day – Friday, May 31st Open to any student interested in trying out a tuba. After school rehearsal. We will be awarding scholarships for a few students to take private lessons over the summer. This may be the final Tuba Day for Spring 2019! Scholarship winners will be announced at Yorba Meadows.

1st Annual Paper Plate Awards – 6/11 Band and Orchestra classes have been nominating their peers for various awards (i.e., Most Dependable, Best Compliments, Highest Notes Played) to be presented at the first annual Paper Plate Awards Ceremony. Students are invited to come after school to the MPR to receive their award(s) and celebrate one last time as a full instrumental music program. Note – there is no change to awards presented at BYMS Awards Night & Yorba Meadows.

Instrument Check In will begin on 6/5. If you are an 8th grader, please plan to bring your instrument(s) in to be checked in. If you are a 7th grader, you may check your instrument out for the summer, but please bring it in so we can verify serial number, quality, and make any necessary repairs. Final day for instrument check in is 6/14 for Adv. Orch & Jazz Band Instruments.

Section Leader & Leadership Team Interviews/Auditions will occur during the week of 6/3. More information will be given via Google Classroom.
