Matador Instrumental Music Updates
Week starting 9/16/19
Bernardo Yorba Entertainment Unit Weekly Newsletter
The most successful students have involved parents.
Whew! What a week! This past week has been INCREDIBLY busy with performances, uniform fittings, chaperoning, bringing in donations for the dance and so much more. It’s been a great way to see how successful our program can run with family and volunteer support. It’s hard to believe we are only finishing the third week of school. Here’s a brief recap of the week’s events:
Intermediate Band Flashcards We have had the highest rate of students passing their flashcards with this year’s class. It’s been exciting seeing students putting in hard work, then to see it pay off. Great job Intermediate Band! All students have completed an Instrument Interview, where they had the opportunity to try out some school instruments to determine the instrument which they could be the most successful. Any student who is switching to a different instrument will be provided with a school owned instrument for the school year! Please watch for an Instrument Rental Agreement to be signed by a parent/guardian. We will start bringing instruments to school/checking out school instruments on Monday.
Fairmont Assembly Recap I am so proud of all of the students who performed at Fairmont. Your behavior traveling to and from, as well as on stage during the assembly was exemplary. Your performance went very well, and I am very proud of you for performing at a professional event on the tenth day of school. Mrs. Rex was very happy to have us perform and told me she’d like to make it an annual occurrence. Thank you to our volunteers who walked with us, and to any family members who were in the audience to support us!
Marching Band Uniform Fittings This has been the smoothest and most efficient uniform fitting I have seen in my time at BYMS. A HUGE thank you to every single parent, grandparent, sibling, cousin, friend, and event BYMS student who helped with uniform fittings. Additionally, thank you to families for getting your student to uniform fittings during our fitting days! We were able to get everyone sized for their marching band uniforms this week! Thank you to Heidi Gibbons, Uniform Chair for running this event.
EHS Football Game Wrap Up Friday night was a HUGE success! Hopefully everyone had a great time hanging with the high school band and colorguard–I know they enjoyed having us here. I am very grateful for ALL of the students being flexible and patient throughout the evening, despite how hot, tired and uncomfortable we all were. Thank you to all of our parent chaperones who helped load, unload, reload, water, escort to restrooms, ride the bus, help with music/equipment, and everything else done to help the night be a success! A special thank you to Mrs. Fisher and Mrs. Callaway for coming out to support the band!
Last Call for Dinkles Orders is Monday, 9/16 at 3:15 p.m. All students in Concert Band, Performing Band and Percussion are required to have Dinkles (marching band shoes). Please email Mrs. Neumayr if you still need to order. We already have your student’s Dinkles size from Uniform Fittings.
Jazz Band Auditions begin on Tuesday! Please see the Jazz Google Classroom for more information. Final results & placements will be posted on the outside doors to 901 on Monday, September 22nd.
Dance Donations may be dropped off in room 901 before or after school. During school hours, please drop them in the front office.
Dine out – Blaze Pizza 9/19 Come out and support BYEU on Thursday at Blaze Pizza!
Marching Band & Colorguard Photo Day 9/25 Order forms will be sent home this week. Everyone is in the photo, but you are not required to purchase any photos. Please see info sheet for more information.
Google Classroom & Remind 101 are very important for both students and families to sign up for. Assignments are posted/turned in through Google Classroom. Important communication is done through Remind. Please see attachment for class codes and how to join.
DINE OUT at BLAZE PIZZA – Thurs 9/19, 5:30-8:30 p.m. Our first dine out this year is at the NEW Blaze Pizza location at the Yorba Linda Town Center! Enjoy pizza, salad, garlic knots, and tasty desserts to support BYEU. See attached flyer.
BYEU Sponsored Welcome Back Dance – Friday, September 20th
We are in charge of the snack bar/concessions stands at this dance! Last year we raised over $1000! We need donations of single serve snacks, chips, cookies and sodas/drinks. Popular are Takis, Hot Cheetos, Sour Patch. We will also need volunteers to help and sell.
