DIRECTOR’S NOTES

Welcome to the Matador Instrumental Music Update weekly email– MIMU for short. This is your source for all things going on with the Bernardo Yorba Bands, Orchestras and Colorguard. MIMU is sent out on Sunday evenings every week during the school year. Each section has a heading, so you can jump down to the sections that apply to you and your students. 

The primary form of communication is through the email provided to us at registration. If you know someone who is not getting the weekly email, please have them email Mrs. Neumayr rneumayr@pylusd.org 

I am looking forward to a year of excellence, education and fun! Your students have been a joy to work with for the first week of school–I admire their energy and enthusiasm they have shown thus far.

Instruments – Students should bring their instruments to school every day. It is rare and infrequent that we will not use instruments in class. Percussionists should have a practice pad and sticks every day. There is storage in the back of room 901 for students to drop off their instruments in the morning, and then pick up after school every day.

Concert Band, Performing Band, Orchestra – Bring instruments starting Tuesday, September 3rd.

Intermediate Band – Bring instruments starting Monday, September 9th.

If you’re planning to check out a school instrument, please let Mrs. Neumayr know ASAP. Many instruments went out to be repaired over the summer and will be back on Friday, 9/6.

Registration Materials are now due! Please send them to school with your student

  • Emergency Form (50 points, due 9/3) required in order to go on any trips with the band/orchestra/colorguard
  • Handbook Acknowledgement (50 points, due 9/9)
  • Performance Donation & Uniform Order Form – drop checks off in the Grey Everything Box by Mrs. Neumayr’s office

Jazz Band Auditions students interested in Jazz Band should come to zero period rehearsals beginning Tuesday, 9/3. For information about the process and class, please see the attachment.

Intermediate Band will need 10 flashcards on Tuesday, 9/3. They must adhere to the following rules:

  • 10 cards, uniform in size and color
  • Must be ruled (have lines) on at least one side

First Friday Marching Band & Colorguard Rehearsal, Fri 9/6, 3:15-5:00

This is our first combined rehearsal as a full group for this year’s Marching Matadors. We will be working on how we look and sound as a group. Attendance is mandatory for all students in 1st period, 2nd period, 3rd period and Colorguard as this is one of the few times we are all together as one group. It is important to practice what we perform. Students should wear comfortable shoes and pants/shorts as we will be moving quite a bit. We also have BYMS Alumni come back to help work with students.

EHS Football Game – Friday, 9/13 for all Marching Band & Colorguard Students. Please see Info Sheet.

Google Classroom & Remind 101 are very important for both students and families to sign up for. Assignments are posted/turned in through Google Classroom. Important communication is done through Remind. Please see attachment for class codes and how to join.

DINE OUT at BLAZE PIZZA – Thurs 9/19, 5:30-8:30 p.m. Our first dine out this year is at the NEW Blaze Pizza location at the Yorba Linda Town Center! Enjoy pizza, salad, garlic knots, and tasty desserts to support BYEU. See attached flyer.

BYEU Sponsored Welcome Back Dance – Friday, September 20th

We are in charge of the snack bar/concessions stands at this dance! Last year we raised over $1000! We need donations of single serve snacks, chips, cookies and sodas/drinks. Popular are Takis, Hot Cheetos, Sour Patch. We will also need volunteers to help and sell.
